DNA
Black Sheep Recording artist Janelle Arthur releases her new single, “DNA,” which is available today.
The fun-filled, rollicking track paints a vivid picture of some zany family characters with tales of “loopy Aunt Lucy” and others from the more colorful side of the family who remind us exactly where we come from, even when we’d just as soon forget. Arthur’s voice is perfectly suited for the vibey track that pokes fun at the universal realities that all families face. The song’s clever, tongue-in-cheek lyrics remind us that we can pretend to be someone different, but at the end of the day no matter how far you run, your family is still your family, and “you can’t get away from your DNA.” “This song is all about the quirky reality of family dynamics,” said Arthur about the moxie-filled tune. “A super fun fact is that my mother gave me this hook (title) years ago. We finally wrote it with my friend and king of comedic writing, Gerald Smith. The overall message is a reminder that our genes are strong, and we can pretend to be anyone from anywhere, but at the end of the day “you can’t get away from your DNA.”
